Aviator Game in Tanzania: Where to Play, Mobile Money, Odds & Rules (2026)

From Dar es Salaam to Arusha, Aviator — the "ndege" game — is among the most played betting games in Tanzania. This guide covers who regulates it, the new tax on stakes, where Tanzanians play, mobile-money payments, the real odds in shillings and the scams that target players.

Is Aviator Legal in Tanzania?

Yes, with a licensed operator. Betting in Tanzania is regulated by the Gaming Board of Tanzania (GBT), and you must be 18+. Licensed operators display their GBT licence. Industry reports note that some large offshore brands serve Tanzanian players without a local licence — on those sites you have no Tanzanian authority to turn to if a withdrawal is refused.

The 5% excise duty on stakes

The 2026/27 budget proposed a 5% excise duty on the value of stakes for land-based and online betting, casinos and virtual games, effective 1 July, with part of the revenue going to the GBT for regulation and addiction prevention. A tax on stakes applies whether you win or lose, so it adds to the cost of every round.

Where Tanzanians Play Aviator

• Betpawa — low stakes, mobile-first. See our Betpawa Aviator guide.
• SportyBet — popular across East Africa. See our SportyBet Aviator guide.
• Meridianbet and other GBT-licensed bookmakers also carry Aviator.

Mobile Money

1. Choose Deposit in your account and pick your wallet (M-Pesa, Airtel Money or another listed option).
2. Approve the prompt on your phone with your PIN — or pay to the business number shown inside your account.
3. Withdrawals return to your registered number; check minimums and fees first.

Never pay to a number posted in a WhatsApp or Telegram group: it goes to a stranger, not your account.

The Real Odds in Shillings

The game returns about TSh 97 for every TSh 100 wagered over time — before the duty on stakes. Our simulation study found that 83.5% of 1,000-round sessions at 2x end in a loss. Try your own numbers in the Aviator calculator.

Scams Targeting Tanzanian Players

• Predictor APKs and "mod" apps — impossible by design and often built to steal logins and PINs. See our predictor exposé.
• Signal groups selling "sure" multipliers.
• Illegal betting machines in shops and bars, reported by local media — no licence, no protection.
• Fake customer care asking for your PIN or a code you received.

International Casinos

Offshore casinos such as 1Win advertise large bonuses, but they hold no Tanzanian licence, so the GBT can't help you in a dispute. If you consider one, check it's permitted where you live, read the wagering terms and test a small withdrawal first.

Gambling is for adults (18+). If it stops being fun, take a break and see our responsible gambling page.
