Aviator in Ethiopia: Betting Licences Revoked — What Players Need to Know (2026)

Is Aviator legal in Ethiopia? All betting licences were revoked from December 2025. What it means for players, the real odds and the scams to avoid.

Legal note. Since 15 December 2025, no betting company holds a valid licence in Ethiopia. This page explains the situation and the game — it is not an invitation to play, and it contains no links to betting sites.

Aviator was one of the most popular betting games in Ethiopia — and it is still searched every day, often with "predictor", "tricks" or "app download". But the rules changed completely at the end of 2025. Here is what happened, what it means for players, how the game really works, and the scams that keep circulating.

What Happened to Betting in Ethiopia

Betting in Ethiopia was licensed by the national lottery regulator. In late 2025 the regulator first suspended the licences of 22 betting companies during an investigation into alleged concealment of revenue, then revoked the licences of all sports betting companies with effect from 15 December 2025, ordering them to shut down their operations — online services included.

At least one operator won a first court ruling against its suspension, but the regulator appealed and obtained a stay, and later stated that court proceedings had not changed the legal status of sports betting. The situation may evolve: check the regulator's latest statements before assuming anything has reopened.

What It Means for Players

  • No licensed operator: any site still offering Aviator to Ethiopian players is doing so without an Ethiopian licence.
  • Money at risk: balances held with closed operators, refused withdrawals or blocked payments have no simple remedy.
  • No local protection: foreign sites answer to no Ethiopian authority, and their terms often exclude countries where betting isn't licensed.
  • More scams: when legal options disappear, fake "agents", predictor apps and Telegram groups multiply.

How Aviator Really Works

Aviator is a crash game by the studio Spribe. A plane takes off, a multiplier climbs, and players must cash out before it flies away. The crash point is fixed in advance by a provably fair system, and the game returns about 97% of everything wagered over time. In practice:

100 birr stake, cash out atYou receiveChance per round
1.5x150 birr64.7%
2x200 birr48.5%
3x300 birr32.3%
10x1,000 birr9.70%
100x10,000 birr0.97%

Whatever the target, the game keeps about 3 birr of every 100 wagered. Our simulation study found that 83.5% of 1,000-round sessions at a 2x cash-out end in a loss. The mechanism is explained in Aviator algorithm explained.

Scams Targeting Ethiopian Players

  • "Aviator predictor" APKs — they cannot predict anything; many request SMS and accessibility permissions to read codes and empty wallets. See our predictor exposé.
  • Telegram and TikTok "signals" — they post many calls, show only the hits and sell "VIP" access.
  • "Agents" offering to play for you or to move money to a foreign site — your money does not come back.
  • Fake "reopening" announcements pushing you to register on unknown sites.

If Betting Has Become a Problem

The closure of betting sites can be a chance to stop. If you feel the urge to chase losses or to look for workarounds, talk to someone you trust or to a health professional, and use blocking apps on your phone. FAQ

Is Aviator legal in Ethiopia in 2026?

No licensed operator can currently offer it. Ethiopia's lottery regulator revoked the licences of all sports betting companies with effect from 15 December 2025 and ordered them to stop operating, including online. Betting sites still reachable from Ethiopia are operating without an Ethiopian licence.

Why were betting licences revoked in Ethiopia?

Reports cite an investigation into alleged under-reporting of revenue by betting firms and unlicensed operators working alongside licensed ones. Some operators challenged the decision in court; the regulator has said court proceedings have not changed the legal status of sports betting.

Can I still play Aviator on foreign websites?

Foreign sites have no Ethiopian licence, so you have no local protection if a deposit or withdrawal goes wrong, and payments through local channels can be blocked. We don't recommend or link to any betting site for Ethiopian players.

Do Aviator predictor apps work?

No. Each Aviator crash point is fixed by cryptographic seeds before the round starts. Predictor apps and Telegram signal groups are scams, often built to steal accounts and mobile-money details.
